I hope no one minds my necromancy of this old post?  :)

I saw this and it looks pretty neat, and is only 6-7 miles from where I live. It's my birthday next week so I have a day off with the family... and I get to choose what I want to do  ;D

I'm going to do this cache, and the one at Wayland's smithy as a special birthday treat. I'm not telling the rest of team Maschast where we're going though - It'll be a nice suprise!

No, I didn't!  :)

I've only just purchased a premium membership so so far I've been doing all my 'caching without using PQ's. c:geo has been allowing me to store cache details offline without limits (I have about 400 caches stored on my phone for Swindon area) so I've been able to navigate and see cache descriptions offline without any issue up until now. The only thing I don't currently get offline is a map layer - I assume this is what memory map is for so i'll check that app out :)

I'll have a play with the PQ feature to my phone though, but I'm not sure what benifits I'll get from them yet, until I actually get a GPSr which can handle PQ's. I'll probably be asking GPSr relate questions if I bump into any of you at the Cotswold Water Park meet up.

I'm caching on my phone (Samsung Galaxy SII) - using the c:geo app and I think it's pretty good so far.

Phone caching has it's advantages especially for urban caches where you can paperless cache and also log your visit from GZ. No need for any planning if you have a decent network connection.
Also c:geo has allowed me to save any number of cache details offline as a basice member (i thought this was a premium perk but the app does it anyway) - going offline just using the GPS part of the phone saves a lot of battery.

For longer walks and rural areas then I suspect a GPSr would be more ideal. My 6 year old likes navigating to the cache and I do worry that my phone will break if she drops it. They're of more use for premium members too who can download PQ's. I'll be looking to get a cheapish GPSr from ebay soon to try it out. It's also more convenient to replace batteries.

So I would say both have advantages and disadvantes still, so GPSr is not dead yet  :)

Hi,

I found my first TB and Geocoins at the weekend!  :) I moved TB4WYF4 onto a Cerney Wick cache near the Cotswold Gateway, but then I took a Geocoin TB5MPM9 from there and put it over at Lechlade..

I noticed from the geocoin logs that someone had put it at the Gateway location to keep it near to the A roads and motorways, so feel like I may have been unhelpful by moving this...

Should I have checked the item's objective online before moving it blindly onto another cache? Are there any tips you could give me for dealing with trackables?

I'm fairly happy with discovering & logging them - most posts I read on GC.com appeared to do with people not doing this in a timely fashion..

Hi,

I found out about Geocaching because we went on a walk with my parents and found a Cache hidden behind a log bench a mile or so to the north of Fairford. Unfortunately I can't see this located on the GC.com website. I also checked the OC.com site but no joy there either.

I'm not a premium member - do I have visibility of "premium" caches at GC.com? Otherwise has anyone else visited Caches in this area and could tell me how to find them?  :)

Otherwise I'll need to go back there sometime, and look more closely at the logbook in the cache

Hi there!

I'm a newbie cacher, in Swindon Wilts.  We logged 8 caches at the weekend and my children loved it!  We love walking too and I saw you had an event at the cotswold water park, which we may pop along to.
