Title: Souvenirs
Post by: Griff Grof on September 22, 2016, 12:57:00 pm
I remember when they first announced souvenirs several of us (including me) have since said that they were silly and pointless.

However, everyone now seems to be obsessed with collecting souvenirs and the attitude towards them seems to have changed.  :)

So, six years on, what does everyone think about souvenirs now? Do you have a favourite souvenir that you have collected?

I now feel they have a place in the game and I really enjoyed the road trip last summer, so all of those are my favourites. It's good how they encourage people to go geocaching too. Wasn't a big fan of the Mission GC challenge this year though - wonder what the souvenir task will be next summer?

We aren't obsessed by them, but enjoy the fun of trying new things, it also encourages us attempt caches we probably wouldn't bother with. We really enjoyed the Road Trip last year, and George particularly enjoyed this years mission as he is a cryptic crossword addict. To us its all part of the 'big picture' of geocaching. Some like the challenge of FTF [we don't bother with them], some only do trad caches, some enjoy filling in the grids and other aspects of the game.  We enjoy the social side of geocaching as much as anything.  Also, we only do countryside caching and are not interested in roadside or urban caches. So, the beauty of geocaching is that there is something in it for everyone, whatever their particular interest.

I agree with Hogshunters, that caching offers many different ways to 'play' the game, with the different: types of caches, goals, abilities and interests.

Souvenirs I'm not so interested in and quite often pick the 'special' ones up by just caching. I am a FTF hound but not as intensive as I once was :) I enjoy the unusual and interesting locations caching takes me to :D

I would prefer it if some effort went into the artwork for souvenirs. We gave some nice looking ones, and then others which are just a coloured number.

That's true @grizzly pair - the 31 Days of August ones are quite plain and poor.

Some of the artwork for the Mega's isn't as impressive either.

I think the artwork for countries is good, and I liked the 10/10/10 one which I think was the first souviner?

What do you think of the latest souvenir - The Ghost of unfound caches?

The Ghost of unfound caches?

Don't even know about it but that will be my fault as I don't read the GS adverts!
