Title: Kildanes Walk
Post by: Griff Grof on November 12, 2012, 06:28:25 pm
3 caches, 2.5 miles. Park at N 51° 59.674 W 001° 47.815  for the walk

This walk is in an area that means a lot to me, and will forever be in my heart. There has been a series of caches along this route twice, and earlier this year we saw the demise of it (for good?). But I still wanted to share it, because the area is so special to me, and it is a nice walk. A couple of hills, mixed terrain but lovely views all around! You will pick up #9, #3 and #8, in that order, left from the second incarnation of the series. The whole route is well marked.

The walk:
Park at the above coords. Walk in an easterly direction towards the bridleway sign. Turn right, and follow the track up here enjoying the views over the valley. Turn right through the gate again, up the muddy track next to the wooded slopes. Step over the stile, and walk diagonally across the field to the next gate. Through there, and walk strait through the next field enjoying the views across the Kildanes valley. Turn right up the gate, and follow the track. Keep going on that track from now on, taking in the brilliant views on your left. After a couple of minutes, you'll have crossed through two fields and will be starting to descend downhill. There will be a gate on your right, turn in, and walk up the slope with the plantation now on your right. At the top, turn left through the next gate and follow the stone laid track. Go through the gate at the end of it, and into the barnyard towards the next gate. Cross that field (which could have horses or sheep in it) and follow that footpath through more plantation after, and down a sheer slope, where you will reach the road after hopping over the stile at the end. Turn right, and walk back towards the parking coords.

A nice little walk ;D
