Twixmas event 2016
« on: September 22, 2016, 12:51:45 pm »
Guess we should have an early thread to start discussing and throwing about ideas.

Does anyone have any?  :D

- It has been a while since our last event  :o

We are away the first week in January (2-9) so would prefer a later (or earlier) date.

Looking at the days: Christmas Day on a Sunday and New Years Eve on the following Saturday.

Perhaps a mid-week event, say the Wednesday 28th?

But where .....

Hi Folks, So glad a Twixmas Event is on the cards. When Heidi and I placed the Shenington Loop we were told another walk was south of the village hall. Perhaps that is a possible location? Jacqui

Any more thoughts on Twixmas? Getting late (but not yet too late) to sort an event out.

Now we're back in the area again, we like the idea of a Twixmas event too.  We have a 3 1/2 mile loop starting and ending at Willersey where we used to live, which used to be our morning walk for years.  Wrighty used to have some caches along it, which we know we've found but note the loop is now devoid of caches except for a couple of ours and also of the Foraging Five.  It would offer some excellent views both along the bottom way and back along the top.  Willersey village hall has parking and there are two pubs to choose from (though in the past, the New Inn looked more favourably on walkers than the Bell and was also cheaper).  We don't mind walking round it and setting up some caches; we think there's time.  Is that all that's involved in setting up an event?  Being of advanced years we could probably use some help with anything technical but retirement works to our advantage in allowing us to stroll around the countryside at leisure!  Also, we favour Dec 28th or Dec 29th, nicely midweek.
Regards, Jude and Rob (Willow Wisps)

@Willow Wisps - thanks for considering organising it!  ;D

Our first EVER CacheWalker event, almost 10 years ago, was in the New Inn with the CacheWalker Five as its walk. So it would be fitting to return all these years later, and I recall that Wrighty proposed this idea last year.

Is the walk 3 and a half miles or is it the full old route by Wrighty? (which I think was 5 miles).

We always used to have events in pubs but have held them in village halls for the past three years. It's up to you as to which you think would be better/easier to book at this last minute! The good thing with the New Inn is that it has a skittle alley (I think)... so we could have some fun there!

The only other thing involved in setting up the event is having a couple of activities e.g. Secret Santa. I am happy to help organise this and write the HTML event page for you if you feel you'd like the help, BUT just go ahead if not! If you think you'd need help with any of it, just let us know!  :)

As for the date: is that okay for everyone? 29th wouldn't work for me, but 28th is fine, and maybe the 30th?

Hello,
We think we'll need help with setting up the event page please (as in we don't have a clue how to do it!) and we just need to know, do we set up the caches as per usual, or is there a different format for an event?  The 28th or 30th is good for us, we believe the proposed walk is 3 1/2  miles, having done it every morning for quite a few years but could make it 5 miles if people want (depends how much festive fare needs walking off!).  We favour the New Inn as there's a charge for the village hall and as pointed out, it does have a skittles alley (or did?).
Cheers, Willow Wisps

@Willow Wisps

I'm happy to help with the event page and you can adopt the event from me afterwards so that it shows as your own on your profile? Just let me know details about times, car parking, meet-up time for walk etc.

Caches are set up beforehand BUT not published until early on the day of the event. Just submit them normally but include a reviewer note on each cache requesting it to be published at 8am (for example) on the 28th Dec (for example). The reviewers are always happy to do this.

Normally Twixmas walks are 4-5 miles-ish so that should be fine - it's completely up to you!

We normally run a raffle to cover the charge for the village hall and CacheWalker does have some money left over from past raffles that could be used to cover any costs. Happy either way!

Feel free to pick the date yourselves etc. - I have a bad reputation weather-wise when we go for dates I suggest!

Brilliant news Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without a Cache walker event.
