When I was with Talk Talk it used to be around 1-2Mb/s. They were very unhelpful in me troubleshooting the slow speed, that was the best they could do and that was that, so I moved to BT around 2 years ago, I got it cheaper per month, no usage cap and BT sport thrown in for free, the speed jumped up to 6Mb/s immediately. Using the tool that TJ used I now get Download: 7.48 Mb/s, Upload: 0.479 Mb/s which is not too bad at all for my semi rural location, we don't have cable tv in our area so can only go down the phone line route, there are no plans for fibre in my area either, but at least at this speed I can use the catch-up tv services where before it was impossible, we had what Kevin Bacon is currently calling buffer face.
