What D/T should this cache have?

5/5 no question about it
not a 5/5 perhaps 4/4
terrain should be lower as only the final is hard
should be somewhere in middle not really requires special equipment
far too easy has to be a 1.5/2

Is this a 5/5 cache
« on: October 24, 2013, 07:33:33 pm »
I have now submitted Losing My Religion - Digital Remaster. GC4PXGB  This is by far the hardest cache I have ever submitted. To complete the stages you need a qr reader, solve a magic eye puzzle, identify stages by photos taken at GZ and use a UV light (not all at the same time) The trail is just over a mile long. When solved the final is about 10 feet off the ground in a busy part of the city and it is not possible to climb to. Most of the terrain is pavement but there is a steep grass bank to negotiate for one stage and I feel the final warrants a 5* on it's own.

It's really your opinion, but I've voted with mine  :)

Sounds like a fun, interesting (and of course challenging) cache  :)

I always struggle when it comes to T/D and often alter them after feed back as some that I think are very easy others struggle with and visa-versa. It has been a bit of an ambition of mine to create a 5/5 and think I may have finally done so. I think my next challenge will be to set caches that fill the full range of T/D and in doing so name them to cover the alphanumerical range as there are some letters and numbers I am going to travel miles for. Thanks for your vote

It's difficult to work out what the final bit is if you can't climb, to me suggests some other method that allows you to reach 10ft high, so on that basis, I would have to mark down the terrain. Sounds like you've put a lot of thought into it and intrigues me to want to go and do it :) Only problem is when I've tried a QR reader on my smart phone, it didn't work :o

I am not sure how to vote at the moment, sorry that doesn't really help you does it :D It would be easy to rate the terrain knowing more about the final, but then you would have to give more details away. Just thinking of past experiences where it has not been possible to climb up to a cache.. make a human pyramid, or tie a rope and climb down? Or maybe just use a long reach grab claw? If the latter I probably wouldn't rate a 5* terrain myself, but at the same time it would be using special equipment to get to, and so could be classed as a 5*

As for the first parts, the QR would not be a problem to me. The magic eye would though as I would have to carry a laptop with a program on to reveal the image to me as my eyes are not very magic ;D

The magic eye and qr codes are on the cache page so can be read prior to attempting the cache. They reveal the method of finding the Co-ordinates once you reach the stage. This enables people to attempt the cache if, like SangueG you need special equipment that is difficult to carry.
The Final is magnetic and I placed it using a long reach grab claw however the magnet is very strong and I could not retrieve it with the claw. The only way I think it can be reached is teamwork as per the attributes and sitting on someones shoulders or similar. The location is a popular riverside walk within easy site of a busy pub beer garden (I placed the cache at 4am on a Sunday) It is on the underside of a bridge.
I do not mind saying about it here as I do not think there are many Norfolk cachers on this site and they will still have to complete the trail to get the right location [:)]
