General Caching / Re: Your worst caching experience?

Airborne6MM, I think you are brave to even try a trail like that!  We did 19 as part of a series up in Scotland a few years ago, lovely scenery and novel caches (which we like) but the stop starting wore a bit thin after a bit.

Posted a "Needs Archiving" log for GC2M3VZ, Hatfield Embankment! the other day as it's well damp inside the cache and in my view in a dangerous position on a bend that is a rat run into Worcester.

It is a completely senseless cache as there isn't any footpath, its not in a particularly nice location and there isn't really any safe parking close by to make it a cash and dash.  The only reason I can think of for its placement is that the CO can introduce visitors to Gabions!

I checked when the CO last visited geocaching.com, which was 21.12.11 so It's unlikely that it'll get sorted.  I know a few folks who visit this site have logged the cache but if you haven't I'd not bother unless you are desperate for numbers!  There is another cache just down the road with parking nearby so there's something to get if your passing.

Ours was at a layby with a fixed café on a road that ran around the side of a loch up in Scotland, sounds idyllic?
Well, not quite!  To get to it there was a short scramble down a bank, that was noticeably smelly, to the cache that was near the loch shore, rotting vegetation?  No, it wasn't until I climbed back up that we noticed the fractured sewer pipe!

Yep, lovely day and a great venue as far as we are concerned.  Met Walktall, wrighty's and Sumadartson's as well as lots of other folks we know.
Only did the Event cache, bought a Rabbie Burns coin from the guys who are doing the 2014 mega in Ayrshire, expect we shall go up there as part of a holiday.
Also looked around the museum as it was discounted from £12 to £8 and we haven't been around it since just before it opened.

We plan to leave here about 9:30ish.  Can't see what stands are there so if there is a GAGB stand we could meet there perhaps?
Wrighty we could text you...

Sorry if I've missed a post - anyone going to the Mega at Gaydon?
We plan to and it would be good to arrange a group meet perhaps.....

Yep, we did the series a while ago, most caches are excellent and the series well worth doing - it took us just over a year if I remember correctly.

General Caching / Re: Geocaching Facebook Groups - Why?

Quote from Griff Grof's first post: Or are they? Facebook is, they say "for sharing with friends, instantly" with no "compose reply" buttons to be found - Facebook will never crash, unlike forums, Facebook has its own app, so it's easy to check new replies on the go, most people have Facebook and if they are on it anyway then they only have to stay on one sight, rather than logging onto another forum - they can have all their communications on one site.

(I tried using the Quote button but it wouldn't load!)

I guess you techie folks know about the Tapatalk forum apps for android and iphone that let you communicate with forums more easily than using a browser?  I came across them yesterday (on the mig welding forum) as I was wondering how I could use my new phone for keeping tabs there.  Does anyone else use this or something similar?  £1.99 for android.

Cheers, H.

Hello / Re: Welcome L8HNB
« on: December 31, 2012, 10:12:28 pm »
Hi all, thanks for the warm welcome!

Just had a look around the new forum and see that there is a bit more activity on here than there used to be - well done.

I was recently looking around the Groundspeak UK forum and wondering what had happened to it, it's dead compared to a few years ago, it was very vibrant and full of interesting topics, some a bit iffy but usually a good read.  GAGB forum seems to have picked up, I guess the iron rod that was brandished by GS has driven UK cachers to the GAGB and regional sites.  It still seems that the vast majority of cachers avoid forums though....

I think this is the third evolution of the Cachewalker site we've joined, so third time lucky eh?

So, Lin and I hope to get a bit more involved in caching again this year, my leg should be ok sometime in March, so it's drive-bye's  :( and short walks for a while.  We're off to our friends place in Puglia, Italy for just over a week next year so hope to get a few over there.  Otherwise no plans for anything special other than the Midlands Mega at the moment, guess wrightys circuits and Hippo's will have to wait!

Look forward to seeing you all around and about,

Linda & Henry.

Well Lin and I both enjoyed the event, or the part of it we got to!
Not been in that pub for years, we felt that they did very well, the food was excellent and plenty of it.  Nice atmosphere, too.
So a big pat on the back for you all, thank-you.
Linda & Henry.
