General Caching / Re: No longer in my exclusive club

Thanks.

Double Trouble is mental! I looked earlier and notice we were last finders, no surprise knowing how the puzzle works, I don't think that it is giving anything away saying that specialist knowledge is required for this one  ;)

Sorry about ruining the exclusive club  :) but this cache has been taunting me ever since it was published, with renewed effort and CO JimJinks confirming a thought I had was correct I eventually got there, although it did take an age to work out the next step before the penny dropped  ;)

Just for fun / Re: Weekly poll

Out of the 8 5/5's I have done I don't think any on there own are 5/5, although fun and yes an element of difficulty, perhaps a combination of the puzzle on WEREWOLF and the climb on ARBOREAL ADVENTURE 9 would maybe get you closer to a 5/5.

For me this one still has to be the most difficult cache find to date (a 4/5), not only getting to gz, but then finding that pesky film pot once there: The Cave Troll's Lair

I think the most difficult cache I have gone for and found is this one:

The Cave Troll's Lair http://coord.info/GCTDF6

My log and photos here: http://coord.info/GL5WTMRG

I hope to have ago at the sequel next time I am down that way, but just finding the path is a struggle by all accounts!

Caching Gear/ Tech Talk / Re: Geocaching apps
« on: January 03, 2013, 05:14:34 pm »
Whilst I rarely use the apps for finding caches, I have the iGeoKnife app https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/igeoknife/id463856852?mt=8 on both iPhone and iPad. You can of course use this to find caches and on the couple of occasions I have used it I have found it to be very accurate (running on iPhone 4S).

More importantly for me it enables me to view all my GSAK notes out in the field about caches I intend to look for (especially all those puzzle caches) rather than having reams of paper in the rucksack.

This is even better now as the satellite images now use the google ones again, but I don't know if this is due to me having the google maps app installed?

Please be aware that it is all off-line data though, you have to load your GSAK databases onto your phone. I have a not found database (some 32k caches and growing!) and I also carry my found database, as quite often whilst out in the field I fancy navigating somewhere and remember a cache I have found that was near where I need to go, I can quickly get the co-ords from the phone and enter them in the sat-nav, this is great as usually when you need information there is no 3G signal so cannot connect to the live database!

There is another app I have used on the odd occasion, Geocaching Toolkit https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/geocaching-toolkit-igct/id290585562?mt=8 which has a free version, it enables waypoint projection and a few other conversion tools.

Caching Events / Re: Twixmas 2012

Really enjoyed the event today, thanks to Griff Grof for setting the event and of course to Wrighty for placing the caches on an excellent circular walk, I'm glad I drove the 1 hour+ to attend. It has introduced me to a part of the country I hope to frequent a little more in 2013, better get those puzzles solved in preparation  ;D

Hello / Re: Welcome to gaz_zippy

Hello,

I'm based in Sutton Coldfield, but I do travel about geocaching, most finds are in Warwickshire and West Midlands, closely followed by Hereford and Worcester. Only 1 find in Gloucestershire so far, the LQ cache, which is a series that I am making more of an effort with recently, now up to 12 finds so only 36 to go...
