Caching Events / Devon Mega & Piratemania

Who's going?

For how long?

I hope to be there for Devon Mega day but still not sure as we haven't booked our holiday yet  :D It's a nice area, and they've got a good range of events lined up.

Anyone thinking of going to Piratemania beforehand?

General Caching / APE cache decision
« on: March 24, 2017, 12:11:18 pm »
It was a couple of weeks ago but this was the decision regarding the discovery of an archived APE cache.

A poll was run and (as a reminder) this was the outcome:

61% — Return and Reactivate
17% — Activate Once A Year
13% — Display at Geocaching HQ
9% — Traveling Artefact

Do you agree with the decision?

I personally would have preferred for it to be activated once a year and displayed at HQ for the rest. The cache type is now grandfathered and having one left in a location not near to somewhere as accessible as Washington/Oregon made for something quite special. I think it would have been better to see it as history and offer people the opportunity to log it as part of a Mega, as is done with Lab caches anyway. Also, if I found a container of a cache of my own that I thought was missing, I wouldn't contact a reviewer for it to be unarchived. I'd maybe hide it again as another cache!

What do you think?

Off Topic / Very quiet

The forum has been very quiet recently. I guess everyone is busy (including me) with other things right now!

How are you all?

Caching Events / CW March event
« on: January 04, 2017, 11:15:10 am »
Shall we have another Skittles event late this March?

We could do it around the date of the Malvern event as some such as @grizzly pair will be in the area. I can make any date after the 20th.

Also, do we want a change of venue or a return to Snowshill Arms?

CacheWalker TB races / CW TB race 2017
« on: December 31, 2016, 07:12:08 pm »
As some of you heard yesterday, having looked in various shops, I was unable to find SuperBikes. I think I've found them quite cheaply on eBay. Is this where you got them from, Wrighty?

So we could make an announcement on the event page and one here asking anyone who wants to take part to contact us and we'll mail them out. We have quite a bit of money left over from the raffle so we can easily be reimbursed for postage costs.

OR we could make things easier and ask people to attach their own birthday/celebration items to a TB (to honour our 10th birthday).

But with the SuperBike trophy having been handed back to us by Dobunnies it'd be nice to opt for the CWSBC. It's also the trademark CacheWalker travel bug race, having been the first and run a total of four times - so it makes sense for our 10th year.

Let's decide what's happening on this thread  :)

General Caching / 2016 caching in review and your 2017 goals
« on: December 31, 2016, 05:25:09 pm »
How did your 2016 go caching-wise? Did you meet your goals? Anything you really wanted to achieve but missed out on?

What are your goals for 2017?

Walks General / Walk 1000 Miles
« on: December 21, 2016, 12:14:34 pm »
Country Walking Magazine has a walk 1000 miles challenge for next year.

Anyone thinking of doing it? Have any of you attempted a similar challenge before?

General Caching / November
« on: November 28, 2016, 07:55:03 pm »
The forum has been quiet this month so why not update us on how November has been for you?

Any good walks/series'? Any special caches?

No caching for me sadly as I've been busy at uni. I did, however, go on a nice walking trip to the Yorkshire Dales last weekend. Beautiful weather and a foot of snow up on the hills   :o

General Caching / Souvenirs
« on: September 22, 2016, 12:57:00 pm »
I remember when they first announced souvenirs several of us (including me) have since said that they were silly and pointless.

However, everyone now seems to be obsessed with collecting souvenirs and the attitude towards them seems to have changed.  :)

So, six years on, what does everyone think about souvenirs now? Do you have a favourite souvenir that you have collected?

I now feel they have a place in the game and I really enjoyed the road trip last summer, so all of those are my favourites. It's good how they encourage people to go geocaching too. Wasn't a big fan of the Mission GC challenge this year though - wonder what the souvenir task will be next summer?

Guess we should have an early thread to start discussing and throwing about ideas.

Does anyone have any?  :D

- It has been a while since our last event  :o

General Caching / Highlight of your caching summer
« on: September 22, 2016, 12:49:49 pm »
As we begin autumn, time for some reminiscence.

Most of us found plenty of caches, attended plenty of events etc this summer.

What was your highlight? Or, if you didn't do much caching, do you have another highlight to share? Just take a quick moment to let us know!

I have a few and will share one just for now. I had a really nice day in North Wales in early August, attending the maze which had some good interactive elements (it was my first maze, so all original for me) and Lab caches. We also found 5 fantastic Earthcaches that day, including one in a quarry where we literally spent an hour looking for fossils. The views from there were fantastic. We also completed a four mile circular walk that we plotted ourselves, taking in 11 caches. A long but very enjoyable day out  :)

Caching Resources & Tips / TB Scan Geocaching App
« on: September 05, 2016, 09:17:20 am »
I've just seen this on Facebook. It's an app called TBScan Geocaching App.

It looks like it uses the camera in your phone to photograph the codes on TBs/geocoins and then collects them on the app and allows you to discover them all at once.

It's definitely available on iOS for iPhones, and maybe Android. Looks like it could be useful  :)

Close to the Geolympix and would fill a D/T square. Not sure what it's getting at though. I understand some of the information is provided there, but how on earth do you get numbers from it all?

Any help/pointers/tips appreciated  :)

Any tips or ideas on how to decode it?  ???
