Caching Resources & Tips / Re: TB Scan Geocaching App
« on: September 06, 2016, 10:53:08 pm »
Downloaded this app yesterday and tested it on a few of my sons new coins.

Find it a pain to try and re-read writing that's been rushed down at an event but this app lists the numbers ready for a mass discovering.
Had a few issues that it can take a while to read a number sometimes I had to give up even when the number was clear to see as it just wouldn't read it.

Currently as its free you can only do 5 at a time to do an unlimited number its an in-app purchase to upgrade its £3.99 so I might purchase it but only after a few more test runs on our coins to check it picks them up every time

So let me get this right, the cache can be logged by anyone even if you havent been to the area.  Is there actually a cache at the location.

Sorry confusing me is easy.  Sounds like a fun idea though

General Caching / Re: So, how was your caching year?
« on: December 17, 2015, 07:36:16 pm »
First full caching year but for various reasons not been able to get to the target of 1000 caches been a rubbish 247 this year after making getting the last years target of 500 in 8 months.

Have managed to keep the streak of getting a FTF each month going from May 2014 to now but thats looking shaky not maaged to get December 2015 yet and time is running out.

Next years plans to keep the FTF streak going or restarted if I fail this month and just get out more hopefully on a few trails

Thanks for arranging the event we enjoyed ourselves again and will be ready for the next one.

Really pleased to see a video of me and my 2 boys getting water poured on our heads didn't even realise it was being filmed so I will show them that when they get home from school.

Have just found our first virtual cache at the weekend

University Challenge 5 (munch munch) (GCHXGP)

Didnt have time to get around to any others as we were in Oxford mainly to do the Stenography caches was going to do the Swing Low and Swing Lower caches but as had the kids with us good job I didn't.

Shame that you cant create them anymore as there is a few good locations near to us that would make good virtuals.

Shame that this has been archived I have always wanted to pop into a hole in the ground and my eldest son Oliver (and to some extent middle son Sam) would love and explore underground.

Been interested in these ROC bunkers since seeing the entrance hatch to one in Stoke Orchard near Bishops Cleeve on regular trips to the landfill with parents as a kid.

Will have to keep an eye open for another one like this maybe one day the farmer will let people back on his land to visit this one again.

General Caching / Re: Filling in some gaps - Bourton on the Water
« on: June 08, 2014, 10:15:40 pm »
Hi

Just been looking in the Bourton area as we are hoping to attend the Splash Mob event next weekend and was obviously going to take in the nearby caches which totalled 1 for the whole village so can see the need for more in the area.

My eldest son is currently planning a few caches around our area and hopes to get them in place in the next few weeks (just working out who/if permission is needed from Cheltenham Council) and he is already wanting to find other areas to place them and has identified Bourton for at least one (will be checking it out at the weekend) just showed him this thread and he said he would certainly be interested in adopting the series and making sure its maintained regularly.

Hello / Re: Welcome btco
« on: June 05, 2014, 12:26:43 pm »
Thanks for the welcome walktall.

We havent returned to Rusty Pump v2 since the weekend.  Work and weather has got in the way but hopefully we will get there soon.

Made 3 attempts at the cache in total.

Tried to find it on first time on Friday night after work but it was so late and we didn't have a torch in the car gave up before we really started, made a proper go on Saturday afternoon from the Colesbourne side but on the old co-ords and ended up getting cornered by the cows who when we arrived in the field were near the east side gate but before we knew it they were on us and surrounded us and with 2 young boys in tow they were pretty scared as we made our escape from the field.

Third attempt was at 7am on Sunday morning because it had bugged me so much that I couldn't find it and sure I missed something (little did I know the co-ords were wrong) have slightly overcome the fear of cows they all converged on us again but stood up made ourselves big didn't panic and just went about our business and they got bored and went back to the east gate.

Was going to try on Monday evening with the new co-ords from Chedworth but light was fading and I didn't know the Chedworth side very well for parking so have given it a miss but its one that definatly on the radar just because of all the trouble its caused us
