Title: Full log etiquette?

We have recently found nano caches with full logs - what is the correct etiquette in these cases? So far we have:

1. Taken a full but very wet log home and put a new log in, messaged the cache owner offering to send the old log to them [but it was virtually unreadable]. The cache owner thanked us for replacing the log and declined to have the old log sent to him - probably the best decision.

and

2. Taken a full damp log home and replaced it with a new one [a previous cacher had sent a 'needs maintenance' alert requesting a new log], we messaged the cache owner offering to send the log to him/her - so far no reply.

So our question is have we followed the correct procedure or is there anything else we should do? Large caches are no problem - we just add another log or sheet of paper if needed.

Nano's are difficult as you say, you can't leave the old log there.

I think what you have done is commendable and any CO (I would hope) would be very please with your actions   8)


I usually carry some cache maintenance things with me, so while caching if I come across an issue, I can do a little maintenance on behalf of the CO and I would email them, if extra detail was needed that wasn't in my log :)

Scan or photograph the old log, and include the photo with your log, or add a Note log.

I've removed a very wet and full log, photographed it then thrown it in the nearest bin. Then include the photo/photos in the log.

If the previous logs mention wet/full, I add a Needs Maintenance.
If previous logs also include a Needs Maintenance, add a Needs Archived...

Thanks WT and B&RS - its nice to know we haven't done anything drastically wrong! Its such a shame when cache owners don't take full responsibility for their caches - just a simple 'Ta' would suffice when a cacher does something to help them!

We did get a thumbs up from the next cacher who visited the nano where we changed the log!

Like WT we also carry spares, kitchen roll etc for cache maintenance if needed and are happy to do this as caching gives us so much pleasure.
