Title: What's next for Geocaching?

The new search tool could be good.

Maybe as they're listening they may bring back virtuals  ;) :D

What else do you think they've got up their sleeves? And what would you like to see added?

Have you notice the size of the bio window in your profile has gone down to just four lines, with a scroll bar, when you are editing it :o

Yes, it still has all the info (many many lines) displayed but makes it more difficult to edit within gc.com, so now I do it on notepad. I wonder why they did that ??? ::)

A quick search box for GC numbers on the 'front page' of your home page, rather than right at the bottom of the "Hide and Seek a cache" menu.

On Firefox there is an option to drag the lower right corner, and make the box bigger.
(Also get it on these forums too!)

Think Chrome has it too...

What I liked which I read on the GS forum was the idea for a Geocaching Dashboard to replace the My (private) Profile page.

Someone suggested having a section of it listing nearby local events over the next few weeks (distance from home and timespan configurable) and recently published caches (types and distance from home configurable)  :)

I hadn't noticed that, thanks B&R :)

Just tried to find a cache in the new search tool with the word "Raven" in it -

Oh no, a DNF! We couldn't find any geocaches that matched your search.

Used the old method - 444 caches :)

Now having used the 'new' search tool for a while, how do I find I'm using it searching by cache name?

What do I think of this 'new' search tool:

RUBBISH

I think there was another little update to the Search recently, did that change it so you can search by names yet? I can't see that it does.

I just tried it, searched for some caches called Below Above, which it DNF'ed on.

Added my home location but this only allows a search distance of 30 miles, so still DNF'ed >:(

Below Above. 12 caches.

https://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?key=below above&submit4=Go&sortdir=desc&sort=placed

Will list them with most recent at top of the list...

I started with searching for Church Micro listings ( https://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?key=church+micro&submit4=Go&sortdir=desc&sort=placed ) before the new search came in, and replacing the cache name seems to [still] work as a search.

@Bear and Ragged: I used Below Above just as an example, I know those caches very well.

My point is that unless you know a rough, within 30 miles, location, you can't find a cache by name with the new search tool. You have to go to the old "Advanced Search" which will find a cache by name anywhere in the World :)
