Title: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2015
Post by: Site Admin on December 28, 2014, 05:14:49 pm
This is the place for all discussion (unless you think your point deserves its own topic) for the
CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge (CWSBC) 2015

The race will begin at 0:00 on 1st January (2nd), and will end on 24th December 2015 at 0:00 (25th)
The SuperBike which travels the furthest will be declared the winner!

The Rules:

The official TB-run page for the race is now up and running here - CWSBC 2015 (http://www.tb-run.com/show-race-CWSBC2015.html)

How to join the race:
Please email admin@cachewalker.co.uk or Griff Grof with the public Travel Bug ID (TBxxxx), that you find on the 'details' page of your TB on Geocaching.com (please do not use the secret TB code that is printed on the tag) - you will be promptly added to the race.
There no limit for the number of participants.
Please note, you can only take part if your TB has a SuperBike attached to it! (If you weren't at Twixmas but would still like to take part please let Griff Grof know as he has a couple of spare bikes, or strongsRus who have several more!)
Therefore, you can still request to take part after the start date, but the sooner the better/further!

Please name your SuperBike in this format: CWSBC 2015 - [your caching name]

Let the race (and discussion) begin - 3,2,1... GO!

If I want to reuse an old TB do I need to delete all of the logs for it, or will the mileage only be calculated from when the race starts?

Post by: Griff Grof on December 28, 2014, 05:56:25 pm
I'm pretty sure that it won't count any milage before the start date.

You could try  :)

Looks like it will start from zero so that is good, I will make sure the first move gets recorded correctly.

I uploaded a new image of my Superbike (with stabilisers...) to replace Paul Scholes, I selected make this the default image on upload, then deleted the old Paul Scholes photo, although on the TB race page Paul Scholes is still showing, any ideas as it looks a bit odd?

I'm sure it'll update eventually :)

About to post someone who wasn't at Twixmas a spare SuperBike... :)

If you would also like one please say, although I'll now only have two spares left - strongsRus have a bagful if they took the spares home :)

Hopefully strongsRus will be posting us a couple of bikes.

Hope they fare better than our footballers.

One of my 2013 bikes has just landed back in the country after being to Australia and back. I will give it a few weeks to get home give it a service and a polish and send it off again as a 2015 bike.

If it doesn't get home I will release a new one.

As I've got one of mine back, minus the bike, seems right to send it out again with a new bike :)

Well done @walkingwood, another racer is off  ;D

I renamed mine to fall more into line with the other contestants. Don't know if an admin needs to update anything to show the new name, or if it will show the new name when the race page does its next update?
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2015
Post by: Griff Grof on January 01, 2015, 12:54:41 pm
It updates automatically, I think I read images/names was once every few days, hence why @gaz_zippy 's and mine still show the footballer pictures - it'll all change eventually :)

I hope to drop mine off tomorrow if I can find a cache big enough, the SuperBike now has laminate sheet cable tied to it, inside a zip lock bag which also contains a TB mission sheet, not much more you can do to make it muggle proof really.

CWSBC 2015 - Grizzly Pair.
Fired up and ready to go. On its way to the Draycott event.

Mine wouldn't fit into the rock cache I found today, so still in my possession for now...

Dropped my SuperBike off today.
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2015
Post by: Y6GST on January 05, 2015, 10:45:22 am
I see my TB has now travelled 120 miles, I think this is an error... This TB is an old one that has been reused, so has previous mileage, visits etc... I think these miles are the distance travelled from the last cache to where I dropped it off, so if I change the log date to, say, 31st December 2014 for when I dropped it off will this reset the mileage back to zero so that when the current cacher in possession of it drops it off it will start its journey from that point?
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2015
Post by: Griff Grof on January 05, 2015, 11:51:58 am
Ah yes, good point.

Or it may correct itself, a few years ago it had the Grizzly's at 23,000miles before it realised there was an error and it took them down to 17,000  :o It took a couple of months for it to correct though!
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2015
Post by: Y6GST on January 05, 2015, 12:47:30 pm
I've changed the date I dropped the TB to 31/12/2014, so hopefully the mileage will correct itself at some point in the near future...

Our bikes are ready to go.

Details on the way.

I see my SuperBike image is still a retired ginger footballer, but I also see that Griff's 'Henry' has transformed into a SuperBike, so there is hope yet.

:'(  Sadly my SuperBike has been taken from my TB Hotel but not logged or moved on. It was taken by The Georgians (that's the name in the logbook) on 4 January but there's been no action since. So if anyone knows The Georgians could they ask them to get a move on and log the bike then move it on please?
I haven't been able to trace them on geocaching so I wonder if they've just started and don't know the ropes - if anyone can help in finding them please let me know!
Many thanks, Jane (Sly2)

I hope it turns up, a real shame if it has disappeared already, hopefully it is just newbies unsure what to do :-(

My mileage has now corrected downwards to 50 miles, so I am happy with that, although my super bike image is still a ginger footballer...
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2015
Post by: Griff Grof on January 11, 2015, 07:02:59 pm
Sorry to hear that  @sly2  :( Hopefully it will turn up, or maybe you misread their name since their writing wasn't clear in the log? It sadly doesn't ring a bell though. As @walktall said on the CC shout box, the 4th of Jan wasn't too long ago, they may be slow loggers too  :)

@gaz_zippy, that's good - my image has reverted back to a footballer  :o ::)

Image now changed. I logged in to tb-run, then clicked on my image where you have the option to request an image update, this runs once daily, so checked today and the ginger one has now been replaced by a super bike.

Think I will take a lunchtime walk tomorrow to the cache I dropped my bike in. The cache had a finder today but there was no mention of my bike  :-\

Checked on the cache I put mine in on yesterday's lunch break walk. Good and bad news. Good, it's not lost. Bad, it's still there not moved.
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2015
Post by: sly2 on January 31, 2015, 03:22:01 pm
My Superbike has finally surfaced in the North Nibley TB rest stop (GC4JHGC) - unfortunately the cacher hasn't logged it out of my hotel or into the new one, or dropped off the TB. I do keep offering to help if they'd get in touch but no reply so far. So if anyone's around North Nibley I'd be very grateful if they could discover it in the cache, or take it and move it on to get the poor thing started! At least it hasn't disappeared off the face of the planet yet :)

Nice one. But pen missing from cache so couldn't log.
Yep. They're new!

Dropped off Green Superbike trackable TB6QQCV.
At least they used the TB ref number, and not the trackable number. Otherwise you'd have lots of "Discovered" logs.  :D

At least they dropped it off. Hope someone logs it correctly soon.

Post by: sly2 on January 31, 2015, 08:51:51 pm
Yep, really glad it's surfaced. I do keep offering to talk them through the logging process - hopefully they'll reply, but in the meantime at least there's a chance someone else will pick it up and move it on :)

Attached is a photo of my SuperBike. Not sure how to add it to the race page, but just to show that it does exist :)

I think the site picks it up from the TB page.

It's been a while since I did a page for a TB, but from memory...  :-\

On the TB page:

Failing that...
Under Edit This Trackable there's another option to Upload Image

Looks like there has been some decent progress by some of the bikes the last couple of days. I wait for the score board to updated in trepidation  to see if mine has gained a place or not. I've seen Mr @Wrighty has hit a four figure mileage and WalkingWood is on his tail, but have any others clicked up a gear?

It's great to see all of the bikes have clocked up some mileage, and the leaders have some big mileage. @sly2 bike after a shaky start has roared into 2nd place.

Mine is in the possession of quite new cacher that say they are going to put it in their first cache. Keeping my fingers crossed at the moment that goes well.

Good luck, Gackt. Mine eventually got placed by a newbie, since when it's roared over to the Canaries and is now in France. Bon voyage :)

It has only taken 49 days, but my TB has now been dropped since being picked up from the British Library cache, although it is now in the TB graveyard that is Germany.

....... although it is now in the TB graveyard that is Germany.

Tell me about it ::)

I've got a 2013 CacheWalker Superbike Racer (http://coord.info/TB4CK51) that's been stuck in Germany since August last year and cachers keep dipping it for ages :o :(

And another TB (http://coord.info/TB4CK5E) was in a race from NZ back to the UK and got one in jump back to Europe but to Germany in Mar 2012 and disappeared sometime after Nov 2013 in Germany :(

Mine is slowly creeping up towards the 3rd position :)

Some of other good news, is that my 2013 bike (or at least the TB dogtag) has recently come back to life after I set it to missing in Dec last year, and some 16 months after it was seen last :)

Sadly it looks as if my bike has gone missing  :(

It was dropped into GCWVCW (http://coord.info/GCWVCW) and just a couple of weeks later one finder reported that there were no TBs in the cache.

However, hopefully it's out there somewhere as there were several finders in between  :)

No one seems to have moved a significant distance lately  :(

GP doing a great job and are, literally, miles ahead - who's going to provide them with some challenge?

Around two months to go, everything's still to play for.
