Great  ;D The race begins tomorrow, remember, so theoretically the sooner you sign up the further you could travel as you have more time  :D

Is it possible to join the race late say, in a couple of weeks, or would I need to sign up and give TB details right now if I wanted to participate?
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: Griff Grof on January 01, 2013, 09:09:03 pm
I guess you can join late  :)

Just that you won't have as much of an advantage as everyone else who'd have been racing for longer  :-\

Post by: Gackt on January 01, 2013, 09:59:26 pm
Thank you. I've just ordered a TB dog tag. Will let you know the details as soon as I have them, probably about week. But will understand if all the places are taken by then. It was a very last minute spur of the moment decision from me. I will need to make sure my bike's engine is finely tuned to catch the pack.

Just been and put our Superbike out in a cache, will email Griff details after lunch.

Several days in and all 10 bikes still at 0  :o

Have you found your TB's yet, walk tall?  ::) :D

Hopefully someone will find the cache my bike is in right now soon! It's a complicated puzzle cache, in the middle of Switzerland - could be stuck there for a while before getting back on the road to try and win the race again  :-\

As none of the Bikes seem to be moving yet, does it matter?!

And as it only needs one good long distance move to rack up some good mileage...  ;)

I had looked at that as well,I think it records the longest single journey by one person. Their longest one looks to be 4.27 which is why their's shows as 4 miles. I think

I am a bit frustrated. Mine is all fuelled up and ready to go, but I have hit a few days of manic work and other life stuff. There is a TB hotel near a busy road not even 4 miles from my home. I was going to drop it there last night, and then got called to work. Same again tonight. I will get it there by the weekend. I will. Yes, I will. *brrrmm brrrrmmm* <- sound of engine reving impatiently.

Nothing to do with this years race but a bit of info on the bikes that entered the first race back in 2008.

The Toadnets(remember him?)is still going strong and is in Canada at the mo and has travelled 36,811 miles. Also still going is the Lydford Locators bike and is in Norway at this time.Mr And Mrs wrightys were still travelling last year but have not been seen in the last caches they were placed in.

As for Schnarfs,Bikermels,Midnight Ramblers,Csi Wellesbourne,Dobunnis and both L8HNBs it seems they have crashed and burned.

Obviously more valuable than a smurf.

Unless the smurf was riding the bike and he lost it somewhere.

Yes. Within a couple of logs you could be at 1000s of miles ahead of everyone else (if they drop it abroad  :D )

Last year Mine got moving two months after tarmacjohns and was lagging behind him until it got dropped off in Italy, and I was 750 miles ahead of him  :P

A lot can happen in a year!  ;D

I get the general impression that there has not been a whole lot of cache finding going on around my area of late, probably because of weather, although this weekend did seem to be a bit busier. My bike was picked up and now has a few miles on ;D

Yes. Good to see TJ's bike is moving again, after more than 100 days  :o

Is it too late to join in? And whats the do and don't and limits?
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: tarmacjohn on February 20, 2013, 07:58:48 pm
Just buy a toy motorbike (Morrisons supermarket is where most of ours came from) attach a TB to it and let Griff know the details.

No one has gone very far yet so no problem joining late.
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: Griff Grof on February 20, 2013, 08:10:42 pm
Yep, get a little toy motorbike (or attend our next event and we can give you one  ;) ) and attach it to a TB, email me it's details and then I can add it to the race  ;D (Visit Link (http://www.tb-run.com/show-race.php?run=CWSBC2013) )

Then of course the last thing you'll need to do is place it in a cache  :D

Like TJ said, no one has gone too far yet, so it's not too late to join  ;D

Does it have to be dropped off in the cotwolds?

Or can it be dropped off further afield?
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: walktall on February 20, 2013, 08:41:40 pm
It can be drop off at any start point but you of course can't move it on and no dipping by cachers.

Right, so in May we might be going to near where my bike is right now - would it be wrong to go and (if it hasn't moved to another country, or is in the hands of a cacher) pick it up and bring it back home?  :D

See that Mel's bike clocked up 100+ miles in one drop, she's near the top now!

Everyone's seem to be moving very slowly, if at all  :D ;)

Looks like I'm not going to be at the very top - StrongsRus's bike has clocked up 10,000+ miles as it was dropped off in Melbourne  :o What makes it worse is that it's near to the International Airport, so could well clock up just as if not more miles as it just did  :o :D

Now the race is really on  ;D

Nearly 500 more miles clocked up on my bike, now back on home turf, in London  ;D

Sure is nice to be second of the leader board  :P :D Let's just hope I get picked up and taken to Melborne, then I'll be at the top.

My worry is a 'small' cache in London - been muggled three times before, if it goes missing whilst my bike is in there... Game over  :o - Let's pray that doesn't happen!   ;)

You can't help but laugh when you look at the Amazings bike, it was picked up from a cache by Zargos who has now taken it to a million and one caches but the first cache he took it to was the one he found it on so it has amassed 0 miles.

Yep, got the most logs and the least miles  :o

And this is just an idea, but I'm thinking it may be fun if I contact all race participants to predict who they think will win, then we will end up with a predicted winner - so, if the majority say StrongsRus, then that is the overall predicted winner. Might be fun to see what everyone thought once we have the final leader board in December.

Quote
1) The race is on until midnight December 25th 2013 (i.e. any logs which Groundspeak dates 26/12/13 will be ignored)

2)'Riders' may not move their own TBs along

3)The Rider with the most miles on this date will be declared the 2013 Championship Winner at the 2013 Twixmas Bash (apparently there will be one! )

4)Virtual drops will not be counted - TBs must be dropped & collected by different Cachers (if moved on by the same Cacher only the first jump will be counted)

5)'Discover' logs will not count for Cacher count

That's all the rules  :-\

I suppose you're right  :D, and if other people agree... I guess the best I can come is 2nd now  :'( :'( :'(
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: Gackt on April 25, 2013, 01:08:01 pm
You've still got time to enter the race with a new bike and a new tag. That's allowed isn't it? And still possible to win with, although you would have catching up to do.
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: Griff Grof on April 25, 2013, 03:59:07 pm
Less allowed with a new tag!  :o That would mean I had TWO bikes in the race, which is definitely against the rules... I think Mrs/Wrighty did put out their bikes copy tag once the original went missing ???

If I was to put it out with the copy tag, I'll have to deduct the mileage drop from London to whatever cache I place it in - so say the bike had 500 miles, and I placed the new bike with the copy tag in a cache 200 miles away, the TB run would add that 200, but I'd just deduct it off at the end, so it'd be as if it never went missing  :)

So 2 votes against releasing it with a copy tag so far...  :D

More and more DNF logs pouring in - my bike is gone  :'(

Mel's is now with Willow Wisps in Peru, clocking up nearly 6000 miles - BUT it breaks a rule:

4)Virtual drops will not be counted - TBs must be dropped & collected by different Cachers (if moved on by the same Cacher only the first jump will be counted)

So does this mean that, as it was a virtual drop (which TB run shouldn't even be counting, but it has  :o) and it was the first move by the cacher, does that mean those miles don't count?  :o - ouch!  :-\
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: tarmacjohn on May 02, 2013, 06:52:23 pm
As the first jump was from Portugal to Peru, that is the one that counts.

Just as it says in the rules.
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013

But it was a virtual (dip) which isn't allowed  :o
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013

4)Virtual drops will not be counted - TBs must be dropped & collected by different Cachers (if moved on by the same Cacher only the first jump will be counted)

- The TB was Dipped (virtual drop) and is still in the hand of the cacher
- as you said it was their first drop, but as that was a dip, does it count?

Thus returning to my original question on whether all those miles should be counted or not  :o  :-\ (We must remember no other dips have been counted and added to other bikes totals,  so, again, don't know why TB run has added it to Mel's - it's set not to count them!  :o)

In other news I think we should say once a bike goes missing it can't re-enter into the race until next year - poor me!  :'( does everyone else agree?

Edit: TB run adds mileage from the first dropped or visited ONLY of each cacher. But does that agree with our published rules?  ???

I might be the newbie here, but it doesn't go against the rules IMHO because why make the person drop off, and then pick up which is more work, when ONE dip is the same thing? I'm all for them to dip only once, but to then drop off.

Sorry to hear that Griff.

Should really be called a 'Visit' or 'Dip'
A Virtual Drop could be a drop made from your armchair, never having been to the cache in person...

I know that that doesn't help the discussion much!
But do realise that you are after cachers to Drop the TB in to a cache as soon as possible, rather than keeping hold of it and dipping it in several caches.

As for a comment on the situation, maybe ONE dip could be allowed?
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: Griff Grof on May 03, 2013, 08:05:34 am
Yes, maybe it should be altered to the first drop/dip will be counted?
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: walktall on May 03, 2013, 09:12:05 am
My penny worth of Virtual dips:

TB's are in a race and must be moved on from one cache to another by different cachers. This is impossible to do on a Virtual, as there isn't a physical place to leave the TB.

So, no to Virtual dips and if the cacher who holds the TB hasn't dipped it into a physical cache before this Virtual, then it's the next physical cache that counts - dipped or dropped.

Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: Pir8sOld&New on May 03, 2013, 12:01:04 pm
Umm, could someone please clarify, is this discussion about TB dipped in a Virtual cache or TB being dipped in any cache?

Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: walktall on May 03, 2013, 03:36:22 pm
In some ways both but started due to a drop in a Virtual which effectively is a dip, as another cacher can't pick-up the TB from a non-physical cache and there is the question, did the cacher actually visit the site of the Virtual? Some Virtuals can be done from the comfort of an armchair.
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: Pir8sOld&New on May 03, 2013, 06:59:39 pm
Ah fully understandable! IS there anyway of finding out if they also grabbed any other physical caches on the same day nearby or if not then disqualifying that dip?
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: Griff Grof on May 04, 2013, 01:00:09 pm
So, the moment of truth... Should it be counted or not? Post your vote!  :)
Title: Re: CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge 2013
Post by: Pir8sOld&New on May 04, 2013, 06:40:21 pm
IMHO:

Dipped in a virtual cache, say in another country without any evidence of any other local caches visited and then brought back, No.
Dipped in a virtual cache, say in another country then dropped off in another cache nearby to that virtual, Yes.
Dipped in an actual cache Once, but then taken on to another local cache and dropped off, Yes
Dipped in several actual caches, but then taken on to another local cache and dropped off, Only the first dip.

What are the rules if the bike goes missing? I don't mean the whole TB, I can see that part in the rules, I mean the bike itself.. but the tag still exists?

I put a message out on cacheface to see if anyone could move my bike on a bit as it's lagging behind a bit, and a cacher read my message and went and helped it out this evening. But there's not much left attached to the tag apparently  :-\

Grizzly Pair up top with a RECORD-BREAKING 23,000 miles on the clock!

But it's anyone's crown to take... The leaderboard could flip by Christmas - who will take the title?

Looks like BigDave got one of his dates wrong when logging our bike, it didn't go to Japan and back, looks like it has 12,000 miles too many, what are the rules when another cacher appears to mis-log ?

I am sure it said somewhere that in such circumstances that your bike had to start the race again ;D *joke*

There's a good chance it's not going to affect the positions though. I'd say continue the race to the end and then have a stewards enquiry, and if it doesn't affect the positions then let it be :)

I still feel confident that my bike can win. Either confident or delusional  :D

I'm still waiting for my bike to turn up somewhere, as it's still missing  :(

Mines still collecting a few miles here and there, so ticking over :)

I hope those that have gone missing pop back up again to give a little Christmas cheer to their owners, and others find that extra gear or turbo boost button to make the race even more fun towards the end :)

Mine started off slowly. I had the heads up that it would take the giant leap that it did. But today I see another log (http://www.geocaching.com/track/log.aspx?LUID=c40456d0-5bc0-46ec-8332-b4288fa37f36) that made me grin a little more ;D Soon be on your tail Grizzly Pair ;)

Sneaky. Taken to Canada by what appears to be a couple. One takes it to Canada and the other brings it back.

Mine must have a puncture as it is trying to win the wooden spoon

Lucky!

Just remember they have to DROP it in a cache, not log a visit, and only the first drop by the cacher is recorded - so the return wouldn't  :-\ - let's hope they've got another account to retrieve it as!  ;D

Sparklycrow retrieved it from a cache in the UK and dropped it straight into a cache in Canada. TheFiredragon has retrieved from the cache in Canada and will be bringing back to the UK.

Anyone would think I had planned the operation 8)

Very strange, Grizzly's have dropped to second and lost more than 10,000 miles from their clock - guess that's that logging issue they mentioned has been picked up by the system now?

We are sad for the Grizzly Pair :( but happy for us  :D that our bike is once again back in the lead! We are following the race closely!

We are not worried, we have information that our bike is about to perform a big leap. ;D

Our bike has just been transmitted through the San Diego Stargate, lots of miles earned. There's a good chance it will make another jump. ;D

Prediction time!
Just over 24 hours until the race wraps up (less, if TB-run count 23:59 today rather than tomorrow!)

I reckon that Grizzly Pair, steady on top, will take the title, any large leaps now are unlikely in my opinion - anyone disagree?  :D

Agreed, but not impossible. I was kinda aware of where my bike might be heading when it did it's double giant leap a little while back, but it's in teh caching community's hands now, and I don't feel it will move anywhere far soon.

My SuperBike has just been placed in the Imber Event tomorrow :)

Now do I pick it up and re-use it for the CWFC ??? ;D

I would pick it up and re-release for the next CWSBC, not the CWFC

Didn't see it at the Event, so hopefully someone else will be moving it on soon.
