Numbers

Well, someone had to break the ice - it's not just a word game forum  :D :o

Enter the most controversial, debatable topic to do with Geocaching - numbers!

It seems that these days Geocaching is more about quantity and quality - You go on a long series, and the trend is to find 35mm micro after micro, soggy and wet, in locations where you just wonder "Why?". Shouldn't every cache take you to a special place? Shouldn't every cache be a big box filled with swag? Thank the world we have Wrighty in this area to keep the traditional, and proper vibe of the game going - so a huge thanks to you Wrighty  ;D

People will travel hundreds of miles for a Mega event, but not for perhaps a smaller, but yet unique traditional event - can't say I'm no different, but can hiking up a mountain compare to being in a hall in the middle of a town for a day?

I know everyone plays the game differently, but have all the new cachers coming in ruined the golden days of four years ago, and seen Geocaching turn into being all about stats and numbers?

I will post my opinions as you all post yours  ;D

Having only made one cache find in the last 36 days, I don't think I'm playing the numbers :o ::) :(

I am now very much a quality not quantity cacher. Both myself and Omis49 would rather walk 10 miles for 1 fab cache rather that walking around a series of grotty micros.
Even on the Geolympix I have chosen my route going on the favourite points rather than just grab the closest of each of the icons.

Talking of mountains myself and Omis are going to do the Brecon Horseshoe probably towards the end of August, there will be space for a couple of extras in the car if anyone is interested.

I'm interested, get back from our holiday on 23rd of August, so as long as it's after that  ;D

Altra did the horseshoe last week, and he highly enjoyed it, said the views were spectacular  :)

We feel the same way

Actually, we went to the Geolympix Mega Event and decided to do a spot of caching around Oxford city. We had not properly done our homework beforehand to pick out a route. We only did two in the end so we decided to go for "View from Coombe Hill" instead. How glad we did!  ;D

That one has gone to #1 on my "To Do" list (as well as your own LQ Shropshire, looking at the photos) I was hoping to go and find View from Coombe Hill last Wednesday, as it was at the location of another Geolympix side event, but never got a chance to go  :'(

Earlier in the year we booked into a Premier Inn near Gloucester because we wanted to sample a "new" area. We only had 3 days and in that time, we did a grand total of 11 caches!  ;) culminating in Wrighty's "13 counties view"
What an absolutely wonderful time we had  :D :D :D Nearly every cache was carefully selected before we left home, and we had no intention of just boosting our numbers. What a wonderful area which we are very keen to return to. (we've just got to do "Snowshill Scramble" series  ;D)

Perhaps walktall will recognise this location  ;)
