Who's taking part in the summer souvenir challenge? How's everyone getting on?

I saw some email about points or something like that and lost interest  :-\

PS Still don't know what it is about but I bet I end up with a badge thingy

I've not been taking part either. I preferred the road trip souvenir idea.

Groundspeak have taken a bit of inspiration from Munzee, by the looks of things, with the use of points.

Like Walktall we lost interest in the Mary Hyde thing - seemed too complicated. Looking forward to the Devon Mega - spending a week  [from Friday 4th] down there so hoping to get some good caching walks in.

The other day I got a Mary Hyde souvenir - I didn't even do anything except for finding two caches that week  :o

That's really going against the idea of souvenirs as it's not really a reward for completing a certain task. Everyone is seemingly getting them as long as they have a good list of friends on GC.com. Some cachers on my 'friend league' will have completed all the tasks e.g. finding a Multi, cache with 10+ favourite points, etc. I barely did anything, so I don't really feel like I've earnt it  ::)

So I'm not really a fan of the whole friend league/points thing.

I've seen a lot of people saying they're giving up with following it as you're probably going to get the souviners anyway as long as you're caching in some way :D

I got last weeks by dropping off two TB's and this week, if I go to an Event, I will most likely get it as well.

Still don't understand it ::)

Found a cache yesterday (and it was a Multi) and dropped off a TB - so looks like I'll be getting the next one too  :D

We've just got an e mail to tell us we have 75 gold coins - absolutely no idea how we got them, or what to do with them. Unfortunately at the beginning of this we didn't really explore what it was all about, and as it was a really busy time for us [no time for caching  :'(] we weren't planning to try and get the souvenir.

bikermel was at the Evesham SideTracked event, great to see her again ;D

On Mary Hyde: I've been awarded weeks 2 & 3 souvenir and I've now got enough for this weeks, this is all without trying :o

Seems all a bit pointless and just another GS self promotion gimmick :(

Ha Ha - we have been awarded weeks 3 & 4 - still no idea how we got them, must be something to do with the caching we have done down in Devon. As you say Walktall a bit pointless earning souvenirs without trying.

I've ended up with weeks: 2 to 4 and I wasn't trying to get them ::)

It all seems rather odd and pointless. I see they are also keeping the "Friend League" going, so you can carry on comparing/challenging those who you are friends with on GC ???

Makes you wonder what direction Groundspeak see GC going ???

I don't even know how long is left until Mary Hyde is over. Is it done already?

The friend league is something I imagine Munzee has, since that's all about getting points and raising your score. I don't think it's really needed for geocaching, but I reckon 'numbers cachers' will really embrace it and try to beat their friends. Time will tell.

Yes, Mary Hyde finished on the 13th Aug and you had until the following Wednesday to log any finds.

Just learnt it is International caching day and, again, without knowing it, I've got that souvenir ::)
