Given the runaround by Groundspeak
« on: July 26, 2013, 10:34:04 pm »
I've had to move a cache of mine more than 528ft from the original co-ordinates :o

If you try, you get "[* Coordinate Errors]" and this message at the bottom of the screen:
Quote
The new location is too far away from the original location. Please check your coordinates to make sure they were entered correctly. If you need additional help, please contact Chiastolite, the reviewer who published this cache, or Groundspeak to make the change for you. Please provide the cache name and GC Code, the new and old coordinates, and the reason why you need to move the cache.

As the original reviewer has retired from reviewing, I contacted Groundspeak.

You get the usual message back that they will look into it within 3 to 5 business days. OK fair enough.

But then I get a message back telling me how to update co-ordinates for a cache as long as it's not further than 528ft "Hope this helps" - arrrrrrrrrh :(

NO

So, I've had to email them back, saying I know you can change the co-ordinates but I followed your instructions as the co-ordinates are further than 528ft. I suggested that perhaps I contact directly a local reviewer.

They have agreed to this and said:
Quote
We are working on messaging this process with more clarity - I apologize for the runaround.

Hope they change it soon and it was good to see them say sorry :)

Embarrassingly, I then sent the new co-ordinates of RAF 09 (which I also moved) instead of the new co-ordinates for RAF 10 :-[  ::)

Which reviewer published the most recent caches in the area?
Or.
I'd be tempted to contact Deceangi (http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?id=681096) as senior UK reviewer...

My cache was published by Lactodorum, who 'retired' from reviewing a very long time ago!

I contacted Deceangi but also "Professor Xavier" reviewer got involved after I had already contacted Deceangi and in the end, it was Professor Xavier who updated my cache :)

The "Prof" may be your new reviewer...  :-\
They [reviewers] DO get notified of small changes you can do yourself. (So don't try to do a move in several smaller moves!)

The system must have sent a message.
