Caching and snow
« on: January 16, 2015, 07:02:36 pm »
So.... It's meant to snow tonight, as well as several times over the weekend, most notably on Sunday.

Have you ever cached in the snow, and if so would you do so again - or do you think it's best to not bother and wait for better weather?

It is vastly more difficult to find caches at ground level, having done some caching in the snow.

I would just go for a lovely walk unless you are doing TWW, which I shall want to do in the next few days for my 6000th find :)

Think I will do TWW this weekend if the weather is too bad to do a series  :)

I have cached in the snow, and failed. But as this particular log of mine shows my failing is more down to me than the snow :D

As @walktall has said, just enjoy a lovely walk :) A few years back we had about a foot of snow around Ciren which put the town at standstill for a few hours, so went out for a walk with Roxy up past the Ag college. There is a this bit of path along the busy Tetbury road we have to walk along before we get into the green and that is usually horrible to walk with all the cars zooming by, but we had the whole road to ourselves that morning, it was great! ;D

Have you snow today? We've had a sprinkle (see photo attached).

If you don't fancy a walk, and just have a little snow, you could always go outside just for a little bit and make some funny snow creations and take some photos to share. Here's one snapped in Swindon a few years back that made me chuckle (see photo attached).

Just a dusting of snow this morning, wouldn't be enough to stop caching :)

Just a dusting here too.

They've removed the snow from the forecast (let's hope this isn't tempting fate  :D) so may have a go at a not too long local series before/after TWW  :)

Well, I've just found two caches this morning, so my next cache, which will be tomorrow, will be TWW :)

Well done  @walktall :)

Well, we may bump into each other then  :D Haven't decided if we'll visit in the morning or in the afternoon after the series we have planned  - will confirm later tonight @L8HNB  - if one time is better than the other for you then please say  :)

I do enjoy geocaching in the snow, below is a log containing photos of a visit to a 2001 placed cache back in January 2013, no snow at the parking level, but things got much whiter on my ascent...

No snow here, forecast for this area is ok, bit like today - sunny but cold and <5% chance of precipitation...
We will be in most of the day but will need to pop out at some time for our daily cache, probably after lunch.
You can park on our drive which is a few yards along the road from the co-ords you have, if coming from the south (Defford) I expect you will come to the bungalow on the LH side before you get there.  If we're not in there is parking near the co-ords.

Found one cache in Dursley last night. A bit of snow on the higher ground to remind me that it is winter, but didn't hinder the cache find :)
