Cache claiming etiquette

New cache just released. I have been here many, many times and I know the answers. Do I need to re-visit it after the publication date or can I just claim it with my historic knowledge.

Your thoughts???

Go for it!

But DON'T admit you've answered without visiting to do the cache.  ;D
(You can admit to knowing/having visited the area previously, but why try to 'pull the wool'?)

I'm surprised they didn't ask for a photo, even though they are optional these days.  ::)

It's difficult with Earthcaches/Virutals, I personally treat them like normal caches so if it were me I'd go to the location again.

But that's just my own view, and if you want to claim it there's nothing stopping you! You have been there before after all.

What I've done with different listing sites, if the same physical cache which I've already found and sign, then appears on an alternative site some time later. I've re-visited the cache and re-signed for the new listing on a different listing site.

So, if it was me, I would re-visit but have all the answers ready to send, so you could do it instantly after visiting the last location (if you are after a FTF).

But do it after the 9th, as I need a FTF on that date :P

But seriously, it is how you feel about it and how you like to play the game. We know some cachers would try and claim it from an arm chair if they could, having never visited the site :o

If you are not after the FTF, it would make a good excuse to re-visit on a lovely sunny warm day :)

I did it today, the sign that contains the sheet that gives you the info has been removed.  However, despite that, Dave did allow me to claim it as I was able to provide the answers with out the sign.
I did go up to the K & Q stones and take a picture, I took a picture of the stone by the barrier and a couple more at Cherry Tree Quarry just in case there were any questions.  It was a lovely morning and a pleasure to be on the hill...
What you do is up to you though  ;)

A newly published cache, and already the/one of the signs that provide answers is missing?  :o

Outside the CO's control unfortunately!  Dave has been up there three times to research the cache and the info, which is in a lockable cabinet, was there on his last visit.  Just unfortunate I guess...

Here's another issue that falls under the thread subject:

I searched for a cache and was joined by another cacher, hoping we may get a FTF. It turns out that the brand new cache had gone before anyone had chance to find it.

The CO has checked and it had gone :(

So as compensation to the cachers who didn't find it the two days it was active, the CO has offered that we can log it as a Joint FTF.

Do you log it?

As far as I am concerned I will answer your question with another question

Did you sign the log book?

The CO is letting us sign the virtual log book  :P

So, do you claim the find?

That's happened to me with a potential FTF. The CO didn't offer but I personally wouldn't have claimed it.

It's up to you though.
