Cache Carnival
« on: March 25, 2019, 01:58:26 pm »
Six souvenirs are up for grabs from today until April 14th.

To earn the first five, you’ve got to accumulate points on your leaderboard (previously Friend League). You get more points for finding caches with a high number of favourite points.

There are also 25 points up for grabs if you receive a favourite point on one of your own caches.

The sixth souvenir can be earnt by attending an official Creation Celebrations event.

More info and FAQs here

What do you think about this souvenir challenge? I think it’s a good idea as it promotes quality and creative caches above standard film pots and bisons.

Feel free to share your progress here as the Carnival progresses.

Souvenirs have never really gotten me exited. This though I think is generally a step in the right direction. It's even possible for people who rarely find caches, but who own some high quality ones to get a souvenir for their previous efforts in putting out great hides with people awarding them fav points.

We have already got 4 of the souvenirs and don't know how we got them! Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to us as we weren't even trying.

I’ve got 3 so far and haven’t even been out caching! That’s just from favourite points on a couple of my own caches.

"What do you think about this souvenir challenge?"

To be polite - rubbish, you could have stopped caching and earn all the souvenirs - who thought this bit of rubbish up :(

You might guess what I think of these  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Exactly.

It’s also problematic as you could persuade others to add favourite points to your caches so that you earn the souvenirs quickly  :o >:( - most will play by the rules, but still, it’s not very well thought out!

I've now got 4 out of the 5, just with standard caching i.e. not trying to earn these souvenirs. Not sure if any if from Fav Points.

I'm trying to clear all caches up to 14 miles away 8) I've got 73 to go but nine of them are missing :( another one involves climbing gear and two puzzles I've not got a clue how to work out :o :(

Yes, GC815D5 - Really Side Tracked, Hook Norton, you even have to climb to get the final co-ordinates as I've been and looked :) and GC83QQA- CQ CQ Moon Bounce I've tried a few guesses but out of ideas.

The other puzzle is GC3WYMN- Tactically Clever Placing and I've found over the years finding the CO's caches, our brains are wired differently :o

Well, it's got three days to run and out of the 418 points I've got so far, 300 are from FP's awarded to some of my caches :)

So, I could have sat at home and got four souvenirs :o Not sure what the lesson is here :( For me, it has been the good weather that I've been out caching, not because of souvenirs - O and the usual FTF rush with a new month ;)

I’ve not done very well as I’ve only had time to find the odd cache, and only received a couple of fave points due to a low number of finds on my caches as they’re all several years old now.

I preferred the previous souvenir challenges that encouraged you to find different types of caches, like the Roadtrip in summer 2015. The Planetary Pursuit was a proper challenge, but again was at the wrong time of year for me to fully complete it :(

Just taken a look at my "leaderboard". You've done better than I have  ;D The only fav points I got awarded were for a cache I adopted, and like your that cache has been out a long time.

Noticed Pir8sOld&New beat us both, without finding any. And Leonards193 blew us away by having been given fav points as they have hidden a huge amount of caches.

The Planetary Pursuit was a proper challenge

By far the best souvenir, in my humble opinion  :)
