Twixmas 2019

Thought I'd start a thread to get the ball rolling.

Any ideas?

We have offered to host the Twixmas event this year - so it will be in Warwickshire, at the same venue as 2017 - Priors Marston Village Hall.
The route for the walk is sorted, just got to place caches etc and fix the date.
It could either be a Twixmas event on Sunday 29th Dec or a Twinew event on Sunday 5th January. Are there any strong preferences? Jenny and George.

29th Dec gets my vote so it's still Twixmas :)

I have a family member’s birthday on the 29th, so the 5th would be ideal for me personally.

I say go with the date you - and others - feel most comfortable with. If that’s the 29th, then that’s okay, if it’s the 5th, that’s obviously good too :)

The date is set for the Cachewalker 2019 Twixmas event - Sunday 29th December. The hall is booked, but we can't publish it yet so here is your early notice as Cachewalkers!

Really sorry Griff Grof that it clashes with a family event, but we couldn't get the hall for the 5th Jan as it had already been booked for something else.  :'(

Looking forward to catching up with friends old and new. Jenny and George

That is great news, if we manage it right we will try to make it our 20000th cache, as we have had a history of 1000, 2000 and several others on a cache walker event.  We have 175 caches to go!

Last year, Ems (Mrs Jinks) didn't enjoy the walk as those at the front were going too fast and not waiting for those at the back to catch up. Is there anyway to keep the group together this time?

I’m sorry to hear that she didn’t enjoy the walk. It’s not the first time this point has been raised.  :(

I’m sure those at the front aren’t doing this intentionally - they might not realise, it may not cross their minds, or they might think there are enough people behind them to accompany the slower walkers.

My suggestion would be to make an announcement before setting off - something along the lines of “remember it’s a group walk, so we need to stick together and give people time to catch up before moving on”.

Maybe we could count how many people there are before setting off, and check that everyone is at each cache location before announcing that we can move on to the next?

In addition, we could have a few volunteers staying at the back of the group for the duration of the walk.

Some good points Griff Grof.

George will make the announcement when the walk is assembled ref its a 'group walk' and for people to try and keep together.
George and Jamie [ our Grandson] will be 'tail end Charlies' and ensure no-one is left behind. They did this on the 2017 walk.

Anyone got any other thoughts on how to manage this problem?

I've been one of those that goes from the front to the back and back to the front, etc trying to chat with most but it's a good point, it is a group walk and we should stick together (hopefully not from mud!). Sorry Ems, there was a steep bit that split us up :(

Moving on as a group at each cache should make the group stick together.
