Twixmas 2012
« on: August 09, 2012, 07:09:13 pm »
I know it's months away but in theory events should be submitted 3 months beforehand which means end of September/early October for this one - and it would be good to get ideas in the pot.

I propose December 30th as the date, or December the 27th/28th - the one date I cannot attend is 29th; sisters birthday. 30th may be too late for some. Please suggest more dates too! Could run into a Twinew instead?

Location I propose is The Farmers Arms (http://farmersarmsguitingpower.com/) in Guiting Power; with more than plenty of potential to develop a a series for the pre-event walk. It has a free-to-book function room which can hold up to 40 people; and skittle alley available within it. Open all year round. Parking in the village hall, if the pub car park fills up too quickly. Suggest more locations please!

I would love to help organise again, so if you all want me to I am happy to sort out many activities for the event including Secret Santa; Guess where the cache is. And of course the awards for the CWSBC and handing out new bikes for next year. I doubt I will be able to set the caches on the walk though; maybe some cache 'n' dashes for those who don't want to do the walk? Obviously we can talk about other things/ who wants to enquire with the chosen venue.

Only just to start getting basic ideas going; would love to have a "proper" CacheWalker to round (or start) the year off, with a group walk and all.

Twixmas Event came up in conversation last week at the Mega and people are looking forward to another CacheWalker classic get together.

The Farmers Arms at Guiting Power seems an ideal location as long as it doesn't snow heavily. Hasn't wrighty already looked at a walk in this area?

As far as dates are concerned, the last few days in the year or into the New year are best for me, as it is usually around Boxing Day we have a family gathering.

Hard to think of Snow being here in Spain right now  ;D but yes, I do think that it could be an issue should it repeat as it did in the run up to Twinew at the end of December 2010. Otherwise The Farmers Arms is the perfect venue... Another ideas for a location with good potential for a group walk and near to an A-Road to get to in bad weather?

Now to decide on 28th or 30th as the date, unless anyone else has other ideas?

Other pubs with bowling alley... Snowshill Arms, but as the name suggests the likelyhood of snow up there is far greater than most places, or The New Inn Willersey which is next to a main road, and has a good sized level car park, (and very handy for us Foragers tee hee, though not so handy for Walk Tall and others out that way). Date wise, any for us, as we have no plans as yet for the Christmas period.

30th it is then?

foraging 5: There have been two CacheWalker events held in the New Inn, the first being the first ever CacheWalker bash, Twixmas 2007 - I believe, by reading logs, it was a good venue, with good food. The only problem I can find with The New Inn, Willersy is that the area is already filled up with caches and I'm not sure if there's potential for a new series/walk in the area... We could meet somewhere else for the walk, but that's not as convenient and if there is snow then we have the same problem on finding another close area with A-Road access. Or just risk it with Farmers Arms, or another location?

:D Let's hope for the best!

So does anyone want to talk to the pub to see if it's possible?
