CW TB Race 2018 - name?
« on: December 31, 2017, 03:51:30 pm »
We were lucky to have two reviewers handing out trackable tags, meaning we can now hold our TB race  :)

Does anyone have an idea for a name?

Previous ones have been:

  • CacheWalker SuperBike Challenge (CWSBC)
  • CacheWalker Footballers Challenge (CWFC)
  • CacheWalker Race to Rio (CWR2R)

How about simply: CacheWalker Travel Bug Race 2018 (CWTBR)

Or, as Signal the Frog is on the tags: CacheWalker: Signal on Tour (or similar)

Any other suggestions?

I think we should set the start date as Jan 8 (gives attendees around a week to activate their trackables) - or do you think that's too late?

For now, I'll call it CacheWalker Travel Bug Race 2018, and we can change that later if we decide to.

We think 'Signal on Tour' sounds good Griff. Should we try and attach a frog to the TB? Jenny and George.

Signal On Tour sounds like a good name, nice to receive a gift from GS today via the reviewers.

I agree with the others, 'Signal on Tour' sounds good Griff.

8th Jan sounds OK to me for a start date (I'm still catching up on my logging :o )

PS @hogshunters - to help promote the race, are you going to make a Twixmas Event announcement before you archive your event?

Yes that's no problem Walktall - will do.

How long do you leave it before the event is archived ?

I think it’s up to 30 days after the event takes place.

Like all things, people do it differently but 30 days is a good measure.

Myself, I do a sort of two stage approach.

I Temporary Disable the Event, using this to nudge people to complete logs and retrieve TB's in the Event Inventory - I do this about 2 weeks after the Event.

Then a week before archive, I make an announcement that the Event will be archived in a weeks time, for cachers to complete their logs (they can still log after an Event has been archived) and remove TB's which is more important, as TB's that are still in an Event when it gets archived, become orphaned i.e. they are not in a person's or cache's (Event) Inventory.

So after four weeks, the Event is archived.

This is how I do it, others do it a lot quicker and some are still active 2 months afterwards!
