CacheWalker Race To Rio - 2016 TB race
« on: January 06, 2016, 07:28:52 pm »
This is the place for all discussion (unless you think your point deserves its own topic) for the
CacheWalker Race To Rio 2016

The race will begin at 0:00 January 9th, and will end on 0:00 December 25th.
This year participants have attached either a gold medal or a RAF tag to their TBs. The first TB to reach Rio de Janeiro, the location for this year's Olympic Games, and the TB which travels the furthest will be declared the winners! If no TBs make it to Rio, the one which got closest will win the prize.

The Rules:

  • The race is on until midnight December 25th 2016 (i.e. any logs which Groundspeak dates 26/12/16 will be ignored)
  • The TB with the most miles on this date will be declared the 2016 Championship Winner at the 2016 Twixmas Bash
  • CacheWalkers may not move their own TBs along
  • Therefore, TBs must be dropped & collected by different cachers (if moved on by the same Cacher only the FIRST jump will be counted, regardless of 'Visited' or 'Dropped Off' log, any subsequent logs by the same cacher will not be counted
  • Discover/Visited logs do not count
  • The owner of the TB must not be present with the cacher who's moving it IF they both visit the same cache together for the drop.
  • CacheWalkers can only have ONE TB each in the race (unless a couple/family are wishing to have their own)
  • If your TB goes missing YOU ARE OUT OF THE RACE - you cannot re-release another TB with your copy tag as part of this year's race.

The official TB-run page for the race is now up and running here - CWR2R 2016

How to join the race:
Please email griffgrof@cachewalker.co.uk or Griff Grof via his profile with the public Travel Bug ID (TBxxxx), that you find on the 'Details' page of your TB on Geocaching.com (please do not use the secret TB code that is printed on the tag) - you will be promptly added to the race.
There no limit for the number of participants.
Please note, you can only take part if your TB has a gold medal or RAF tag attached to it! (Don't worry if you weren't at Twinew but would still like to take part! Please let Griff Grof know as he has some spare RAF tags/medals.)
Therefore, you can still request to take part after the start date, but the sooner the better/further!

Please name your TB in this format: CacheWalker Race To Rio - [your caching name]

Let the race (and discussion) begin - 3,2,1... GO!

Our TB will be released at an event  tomorrow. We have given everyone a month's head start this year to make it fair. ;D

We have just received a message about our TB -

CacheWalker Race to Rio - hogshunters (TB7D65J) has a new log:

Logged by: copperpot362
Log Type: Discovered It
Date: 2/8/2016
Type: Lackey Tag

Log:
On my way to Northampton for work I noticed this TB- having a TB in the same race I thought I would go and check it out, and dip my current TB for mileage!
Good luck!!!

(Sorry for delay in logging the discovery)

Is there another race as well as Cachewalker Race to Rio? Seems they must have different rules - I didn't think we could 'dip' ours into caches for mileage! Or have I got it wrong again.

Not aware of another race but there might be one. The rules could vary, dips don't count in ours.

I am so confused! Our TB has moved to Es Effo Bug Hotel in California, but our mileage is only 88 Miles! Have we [ or the people moving the TB on] done something wrong? Thanks for any help/advice. Jenny.

It can take a few days to update the mileage. This has happened before so it's nothing to worry about  :)

If it hasn't updated within another week or two, we can make a note to add on the mileage to the final total at the end of the year (the TB page should indicate the distance travelled so we could get the figure from there).

Sure it'll update soon though  :)

On your TBs page, under the Trackable Options there is Actions which by default shows Mark Item Missing - there is another option in that list of: Recalculate Distance. Try it, it may update the mileage quicker than the systems regular updates.  :)

Thanks B&RS - it just seemed odd as it had put in the new cache but not the mileage. Thought we had done something wrong and that mileage didn't count!
We'll give that a go and see what happens - though to us its a bit of fun and don't want to get too 'hung up' about it, just want to get things right. Jenny  :)

It is only the first move by any cacher that counts against the mileage. So as Jaki Worthing took it to 'Get Cracking' which was 14.49 miles away then you won't get the mileage it did going to California.....At least I think that is the way it works, somebody may correct me

That's correct, only the first move counts if a cacher takes your TB to several caches before finally dropping it off.

Something appears to have gone wrong with the race stats, after the last move our mileage has been reset to zero.

There is now a note on the TB-RUN website saying that the mileages are wrong , the problem has been fixed , but the figures will not be corrected until after the next TB move.
