CacheWalker Footballer's Challenge
« on: December 26, 2013, 09:55:48 am »
This is the place for all discussion (unless you think your point deserves its own topic!) for the
CacheWalker Footballer's Challenge (CWFC)

The race will begin at 0:00 on 1st January (2nd), and will end on 24th December 2014 at 0:00. (25th)
The Footballer who travels the furthest and the first to make it to Brazil will be declared the winners.

The Rules:

  • The race is on until midnight December 24th 2014 (i.e. any logs which Groundspeak dates 25/12/14 will be ignored)
  • The Footballer with the most miles on this date will be declared the 2014 Championship Winner at the 2014 Twixmas Bash
  • If a footballer starts its journey in Brazil it will need to enter another country, and re-enter Brazil to win this half of the title.
  • Footballers may not move their own TBs along
  • TBs must be dropped & collected by different Cachers (if moved on by the same Cacher only the FIRST jump will be counted, regardless of 'Visited' or 'Dropped Off' log, any subsequent logs by the same Cacher will not be counted
  • Discover' logs will not count for Cacher count
  • Footballers can only have ONE TB each in the race (unless a couple/family wishing to have their own)
  • If your Footballer goes missing YOU ARE OUT OF THE RACE - you cannot re-release another footballer with your Copy Tag as part of this year's race.

The official TB-run page for the race is now up and running here - CWFC

How to join the race:
Please email Griff Grof with the public Travel Bug ID (TBxxxx), that you find on the details page of your TB on geocaching.com (Please do not use the secret TB code that is printed on the dog tag,) and he will promptly add you to the race.
There is not a limit for the amount of participants.
Please note, you can only take part if your TB has a Footballer attached to it! (Wrighty will be giving these out at Twixmas, GC4TQBW, so make sure to find him!)
You can still request to take part after the start date, but the sooner the better/further.

Let the race (and discussion) begin - 3,2,1... KICK-OFF!

Please may you start sending me the public TB ID as and when you're ready  :)

Might be wise to make an announcement soon, as I see some people have actually already made their TB pages but no emails yet  :D

For identification, please may everyone name their TB under this format (unless anyone else has a better suggestion  :D):

CWFC - [Name of Footballer] ([your caching name])

For instance, mine would therefore be: "CWFC - Henry (Griff Grof)"

I thought I had a TB but I can't find it so will have to wait before releasing Golden Balls. It is a shame as a friend is catching a plane to Brazil tomorrow and I was going to give it to him.

The race officially began at Midnight.

Was hoping my TB was going to arrive in the post to drop in to a cache today, but nope.

Can't decide where to release mine. Local this weekend, Derby next weekend or London the weekend after.

Local, without a doubt, TJ. Perhaps put it in a cache that hardly ever gets visits, might attract people to the cache... Or it might just stay there all year  :P  :D

In all seriousness, I wouldn't go London unless, as WT said, the cache is a sound one- my bike bit the dust there last year, as small caches are a rarity there they tend to be filled with TBs, therefore it's a question of whether anyone chooses to take yours out. There were 15+ Found it's with my bike in that cache before it went missing, and a lot of TBs went out, several in - my bike was never retrieved, and it went with the cache. So, if London, choose wisely and hope for the best  :)

Henry is now activated, now to choose where to put him, myself...  ::)

Problem is, according to Wikipedia Henry doesn't play for a Country - so why would he want to go to Brazil  :o ::)

Adding a rule, just in case anyone is plotting anything: the current wording (written before the race began on TB-run) says:

"The Footballer who travels the furthest by 25/12/14 and the first to make it to Brazil will be declared the winners."

Therefore, if your footballer starts its journey in Brazil, this will not count - to claim this half of the title, the TB will need to enter another country, and re-enter Brazil to win.

Have added this and amended some of the text at the top and on TB run

TB tags received, Scholes will soon be released, hopefully he will travel far and wide, before requiring a dose of high factor sun screen before entering Brazil.

 ;D - thanks, he's been added.

Still waiting for quite a few people, presumably, before the lineup is complete, though.

I've just thought, what if those who couldn't make it to Twixmas wish to take part?
