CacheWalkers: Our December challenge!

CacheWalker update #2
If you no longer want to receive these updates, you can unsubscribe below

Well, it's all gone rather quiet! Here's what's been going on, and what's to come...

Twixmas: Our annual event was scheduled for Dec 28th, but another popular event has popped up on the same date, leaving us undecided as to when we'll hold ours. As time stands, we aren't in the late stages of planning, so an event is, sadly, looking unlikely. However, it's still possible, and if it's not Twixmas, it may be Twinew - we'll keep you posted, but we've got nothing set at the moment. Make sure to visit our forum at cachewalker.co.uk if you have any ideas, or you want to help out!

December Challenge: Our forum has quietened down again, so we're going to try to go out on a high for 2014! There'll be plenty of threads to gauge your interest, old games such as Where in the World revived, and plenty of festive fun during the Christmas period. Of course, if you have any ideas for threads, polls or just general chat, then feel free to visit us and make all the noise you want!

CWFC - and what's coming up in 2015?: This is currently undecided. The CWFC (http://www.tb-run.com/show-race.php?run=CWFC2014) race has been record-breaking, and our most 'controversial' yet - it concludes on Christmas Day, and the top three (plus the first who made it to Brazil) will receive their prizes at our next event, whether that's a late Twixmas or our first in 2015. We'll keep you posted as to whether or not we'll be holding a TB race next year, too.

Forum downtime tomorrow (Dec 1st): At around 20:00 GMT we'll have the forum offline for around 10 minutes whilst we decorate it for the festive season. Apologies for any inconvenience.

CacheWalker Awards 2014: These are a new format of awards which are currently in discussion, and we'll keep you posted if we proceed with the process.

Thank you for reading this update! For the first time ever, it also doubles as a thread on our forum, so you can visit it and post a reply to question or discuss anything we've raised.

We'll keep you posted on all that is uncertain; if you don't receive any news, it sadly means nothing mentioned above is going ahead.

Happy CacheWalking,

The CacheWalker Team.

Being only intermittent users of the Cachewalker Forum, we hadn't realised that Twixmas was in jeopardy!
It has been our favourite event the last couple of years and we would be happy to try and organise something even at this late date, but would it still be worth trying to do something for 28th or are most people unable to do that date? Are there any suggestions of better dates?

@strongsRus - That would be amazing!!!  ;D

Perhaps a Twinew event would be more apt with the short run-in (we held one in 2011, 2nd of Jan was the date - so that equates to the 4th this year, as Sunday's have proved more popular.

I can help organise the event-side of things from the 19th December  :)

@SangueG - if things were to go ahead would you be able to reschedule the day you had off (28th) or is it better to stick to that? How about everyone else?
This may well decide the date in the end.

It's way too late for me to swap the 28th. Work colleagues have made there Christmas New Year holiday arrangements months ago.

Dates I am on-call in Jan, and so no good for me, are: Mon 29.12.14 to Mon 05.01.15 inclusive, Mon 12.01.16 to Mon 19.01.15 inclusive. I am also doing a TerraCaching event in Box on Sat 24.01.15.

We'd be happy to look at 28th Dec or 4th Jan, in some ways the 28th would be better for us but I suppose it depends if we can find an available venue at this late stage...

@strongsRus - what ideas have you got? Pub, village hall? Pre-event walk? Let us know, as I said, I am happy to help from the week after next (need to get mock exams out of the way first!)

If you do succeed with a venue etc, when you're ready to submit: if you'd like the CW event page code/images etc feel free to send me the text in an email if you want it formatted as previous CW event pages and then I can send it back to you - but it's your choice  :)

Exciting - thinking about it, the 4th would be actually better for me, as we have family matters to address on the 28th and we don't know what time yet  :-\ It may mean missing the walk, if there is one, or the whole thing. But please don't change it just because of this, unless you want a more justified reason... but maybe the 28th is short notice for people such as @grizzly pair who need to book accommodation? It's your choice  :)

We have a couple of vague ideas about walks and a village hall - it may not be possible - will look at options so watch this space!
